Hugh Morton photographs and films: World War II, 1942-1945 (Series 7).

Series 7 consists of approximately 575 still images documenting Hugh Morton's World War II service as a combat motion picture photographer with the 161st Signal Photo Company in the Pacific Islands. Images date from the period between Morton's fall 1942 enlistment and his discharge in March 1945 after being injured in the Battle of Luzon, Philippines. Included are combat scenes (most/all from the Battle of Balete Pass, Luzon in early 1945), military operations, soldier portraits, and Pacific Islands indigenous peoples and scenery. Locations in the Pacific are largely unidentified but include New Caledonia (where he was assigned to cover U.S.O. performers Bob Hope, Patty Thomas, Jerry Colonna, and Frances Langford); Bougainville (Papua New Guinea); Guadalcanal; and Luzon, Philippines. Also includes images of military training at Camp Davis in Holly Ridge, N.C.
